Gym memberships are expensive and after a long day’s work, you don’t always want to hop on the treadmill or have to go lifting hundreds of pounds just to get your fitness goals done. Saunas and other alternatives might be just right for you, if you’re someone who doesn’t always have energy or time to get a workout in. Take a quick look through this list to see where you’re at regarding these possible fitness options.
At-home yoga.
At-home yoga is a great opportunity to stretch out muscles you wouldn’t normally use and strengthen your core. All you need is three to four sessions a week. At-home yoga can be done in as little as twenty minutes or less and can be performed before bed. Nothing’s required outside yourself and a yoga mat, should you prefer one. Even better, there’s no membership. There’s plenty of YouTube videos, instruction, and yoga programs available online.
Steam room.
A steam room is a great gym alternative when it comes to weight loss however it’s not going to gain any muscle for you. Even so, it’ll help you burn some calories and help keep your weight under control. Only a few moments in the steam room is required. If you’re trying to save money and/or are looking for an easy workout routine to get started with that’s not going to drain your energy, in a steam room, all you need to do is sit there in the heat. As much as we love gym memberships, we know they’re not always convenient to have. A steam room’s an easy compromise to keep you on track.
Infrared saunas.
Infrared saunas are another fantastic opportunity to do something outside of the gym which will keep you on track with your fitness goals. Stepping into an infrared sauna, you’re going to be able to sit, relax, get your circulation up, and essentially trick your body into thinking it’s exercising. Studies have even compared the way infrared sauna burns calories as comparable to moderate intensity cardio. This gives you some balance over your workouts and again, allows you to cut weight and maintain your health without having to engage in high-intensity interval training or anything as intense as lifting weights.
Tai chi.
The last entry on this list of gym alternatives is tai chi. Comparable somewhat to yoga, tai chi downplays intensity and instead encourages the body to make movement. If you’re rehabbing an injury, a senior, or just want to give your body some time to help balance itself, tai chi is recommended. You don’t need a gym membership for tai chi. It can be performed anywhere. Within twenty minutes or less, you can use movement to give your body the strength it needs to relax, get a good night’s rest, and stay on track with where you want your fitness to take you.
