What to Expect when you Walk into your First Spa Sauna Session

If you love lifting weights, a spa sauna session might be right up your alley. For those that have never taken a sauna session before, some make it last as little as ten minutes whereas others go in there for an hour or more. It all depends on what you feel your body needs and what you can tolerate. If you’re wondering what to expect the first time you attend a sauna, remember these few things.

There are no time limits to how long you need to be in there for. If you’re uncomfortable, simply walk away. Even five or ten minutes in there can make a difference in your physical and mental health. In some cases, sauna users like to intersperse their sessions on-off with a cool shower or a swim to keep themselves engaged. For a wet sauna, you may be looking at up to 100 Celsius in temperature so it can get very warm in there. If you’re in there with a lower temperature or if it’s a dry sauna, this is oftentimes more tolerable for beginners.

Some are attached to working space, while others are advertised as health spas. In Japan, the younger crowd with interest in saunas are regularly referred to as ‘saunners’. For saunners, they’re known to visit saunas almost every day, warming the body and relaxing after a day at work. To them, saunas have given their bodies the chance to heal, and it’s allowed their mental health to feel refreshed and renewed.
